Apple Confirms Google Gemini Will Power the Next-Generation Siri

Apple has officially confirmed a major strategic decision regarding the future of Siri and its broader artificial intelligence roadmap. The company announced that it will rely on Google’s Gemini models to support upcoming AI features, including the long-awaited overhaul of its voice assistant. This move signals Apple’s determination to strengthen its AI foundation with robust, scalable technology.

In a statement obtained by CNBC, Apple explained that after conducting extensive evaluations, it concluded that Google’s technology provides the strongest infrastructure for Apple Foundation Models. According to the company, this collaboration is expected to deliver more innovative, intelligent, and seamless experiences for users across the Apple ecosystem.

The Evolution of Siri: High Expectations, Careful Delays

Apple first introduced its vision for a generative AI-powered Siri at WWDC 2024, promising a voice assistant capable of deeper contextual understanding and more natural interactions. However, in March 2025, the company announced that the major Siri update would be delayed, citing the need for additional development to meet its quality standards.

During this period, reports suggested that Apple explored multiple partnerships. In June, sources indicated that the company had evaluated potential collaborations with OpenAI and Anthropic. At present, Siri already leverages ChatGPT for certain queries within the Apple Intelligence framework. Nevertheless, Google Gemini ultimately emerged as the preferred solution for Apple’s long-term AI strategy.

How Gemini Fits into Apple’s AI Architecture

According to rumors that surfaced in November, Apple plans to build the new Siri on a customized version of Gemini running on its Private Cloud Compute servers. This approach aims to balance high-performance AI processing with Apple’s strong emphasis on user privacy. Reports also suggested that Apple could pay Google approximately $1 billion annually as part of this agreement.

While Apple has not disclosed the full technical or financial details, it has confirmed that the deal represents a long-term, multi-year partnership. This indicates that Apple views Gemini not as a temporary solution, but as a core component of its future AI ecosystem.

A New Chapter for Siri

Apple’s decision to integrate Google Gemini marks a significant shift in the AI landscape. With this advanced infrastructure, the next-generation Siri is expected to deliver smarter responses, improved contextual awareness, and a more intuitive user experience. As Apple continues to refine its AI ambitions, further announcements are likely to shed light on how transformative this new Siri will be.
