Tesla reportedly testing Apple CarPlay as company reconsiders its long-standing policy

For years, Tesla has relied on its own in-house multimedia interface, making it one of the few automakers that do not support Apple CarPlay. From navigation and entertainment to vehicle controls and web browsing, everything operates within Tesla’s custom-designed system. The company has long insisted that CarPlay integration is unnecessary — but that stance may soon change.

According to sources familiar with the matter, Apple CarPlay support is currently being tested in Tesla vehicles. While the company hasn’t made any official announcements, the feature could roll out in the coming months. Still, insiders warn that the timeline might be pushed back.

Tesla’s implementation will also differ from what most drivers are used to. Instead of offering a full-screen CarPlay layout, Tesla is expected to run CarPlay within a window inside its own interface. Additionally, the feature will reportedly use the traditional wireless CarPlay, not Apple’s newly introduced CarPlay Ultra.

Whether this shift will impact Tesla’s sales remains unclear. Many current owners find Tesla’s built-in system more than sufficient. However, there is also a significant group of potential customers who have avoided the brand specifically due to the lack of CarPlay. With this move, Tesla may finally attract users deeply embedded in the Apple ecosystem.
