WhatsApp has started testing a brand-new feature aimed at giving users more control over their messaging habits while reducing spam. In the latest Android beta version 2.25.31.5, the app introduces a message limit system that restricts how many unanswered messages a user can send.
According to screenshots shared by WABetaInfo, the feature is currently available to a small number of beta testers. When a user nears their allocated message quota, WhatsApp displays an in-app alert showing how many messages they have left, helping them manage their communication before hitting the limit.
The message limit will apply to both individual and business accounts, but only for new, unanswered conversations. Users will still be able to reply to existing chats and make calls as usual, meaning the restriction mainly targets one-sided messaging behavior.
WhatsApp is also preparing an “exception request” form for those who reach their limit. Users can justify their need for additional messages, while business accounts can request extra capacity for customer communication.
The company hasn’t disclosed the exact message limit yet but clarified that the feature mainly targets spam and bulk messaging accounts. Regular users are unlikely to be affected. The global rollout date remains unconfirmed, though the feature is expected to reach Android and iOS devices in the coming weeks after testing concludes.
