Foldable iPhone nears launch: Samsung reveals 8.6-inch dsplay

Apple’s long-awaited foldable iPhone project is moving closer to reality, with screen production officially underway.

Samsung Display President Lee Chong confirmed that his company will begin producing foldable OLED panels for “a U.S. client” in the third quarter of next year, revealing that the display will measure 8.6 inches.

Chong highlighted that the panels are being developed using sixth-generation production technology, ensuring top-level efficiency and performance. He also emphasized the importance of continued government incentives to support this collaboration.

Since Apple is known to never greenlight production without quality approval, it is now clear that Samsung has received the official go-ahead. The 8.6-inch internal screen will surpass many rivals in size, positioning Apple’s foldable iPhone as a strong contender in the premium foldable segment. The external display is also expected to be larger than competitors’.

The foldable iPhone is expected to debut in late 2026, likely positioned above the iPhone 18 Pro Max as the series’ most premium model. However, industry sources note that while unlikely, a potential delay cannot be completely ruled out.
