Alpine Formula 1 Team has taken a significant step in its ongoing evaluation of driver options for the remainder of the 2025 season. As part of this process, the team has announced that Franco Colapinto, a rising talent from Argentina, will replace Jack Doohan for the next five Grands Prix.
Wearing car number 43, Colapinto will begin his stint at the Emilia-Romagna Grand Prix, followed by appearances in Monaco, Spain, Canada, and Austria. The team plans to reassess the situation before the British Grand Prix in July.
Team principal Flavio Briatore explained that the current season's competitive environment and the considerable development in their car over the past year necessitated such a move. "Giving Franco a chance allows us to evaluate our options more comprehensively. With 2026 being a crucial year for us, these kinds of decisions help shape the future of our driver lineup," said Briatore.
Meanwhile, Jack Doohan will continue to serve as the team’s official reserve driver. Although stepping out of the racing seat is challenging, Doohan expressed his gratitude for the team’s trust and reaffirmed his commitment to long-term goals. "I’ll keep watching, learning, and working hard. This is not the end, just a pause,” he commented.
Colapinto, clearly thrilled by the opportunity, thanked the team and said he feels ready thanks to simulator work and test programs. His upcoming performances could have a lasting impact on Alpine’s future planning.
