Instagram Edits reaches 7 million downloads in its first week

Social media giant Meta recently introduced a new application called Instagram Edits, aiming to simplify the video editing process for content creators and casual users alike. Launched as a direct competitor to CapCut, Instagram Edits exceeded expectations by reaching over 7 million downloads in its first week, signaling its potential to become a major player in the market.

Instagram Edits offers users a highly comprehensive editing experience. Features such as trimming, merging clips, adding voiceovers, automatic subtitle generation, video effects, animations, and dynamic stickers are all available completely free of charge. This extensive range of free tools has given Instagram Edits a significant early advantage over established rivals like CapCut and Canva, a fact reflected in its impressive download numbers.

According to Meta’s data, 1.2 million downloads came from iOS users, while Android users accounted for 5.9 million downloads, bringing the total to 7.1 million within the first week. As word of mouth spreads, this number is expected to rise even further.

Although Instagram Edits has made a remarkably strong debut, closing the gap with CapCut will take time. Released in April 2020, CapCut has since accumulated 1.22 billion downloads, largely fueled by TikTok users. Nevertheless, Instagram Edits’ initial performance hints at its potential to secure a significant share of the video editing market in the future.
