Formula 2 championship leader Gabriel Bortoleto is set to join Sauber alongside Nico Hulkenberg for the 2025 Formula 1 season.
Bortoleto, who had been on Sauber’s radar for some time, faced challenges securing a seat due to his membership in the McLaren driver academy. However, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella recently announced that he would not stand in the young driver’s way if an F1 opportunity emerged.
Following this announcement, Sauber confirmed the departure of current drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu and sealed a deal with the 20-year-old Brazilian. Bortoleto will make his F1 debut with Sauber, forming a youthful and promising lineup with Hulkenberg in the 2025 season.
