As foldable smartphones continue to gain traction in the market, Apple remains absent from this growing trend. However, rumors surrounding a foldable iPhone have been circulating for a while. The latest update on the situation comes from Bloomberg analyst Mark Gurman, who shared new insights into why the foldable iPhone has been delayed. According to Gurman, the device has yet to meet Apple’s rigorous quality standards.
Earlier this year, there were also reports about the foldable iPhone facing significant challenges. It was said that prototype displays supplied by Samsung Display failed to meet Apple’s strict quality criteria, causing the project to be temporarily halted. This setback has led to delays in Apple’s entrance into the foldable smartphone market.
In a recent post on X, Gurman highlighted that the foldable iPhone prototypes still show visible creases on the screen. Given that the foldable iPhone is expected to be one of Apple’s most premium products to date, there’s no doubt it will come with a hefty price tag. This means the device must meet the company’s high standards before hitting the market.
The news of this delay isn’t entirely unexpected. For some time, it’s been known that Apple faces two primary obstacles: display quality and hinge durability. The inability to fully eliminate creases when the device is unfolded is a major reason why the foldable iPhone’s launch has been repeatedly postponed. It’s worth noting that even Samsung, a leader in the foldable phone market, has not entirely solved this issue with its Galaxy Z Fold 6 and Flip 6 models.
While the visibility of creases has been significantly reduced, they can still be seen under certain lighting conditions. Given Apple’s focus on producing premium products, such imperfections would be seen as a flaw in the foldable iPhone. Until Apple finds a way to completely resolve this issue, it seems unlikely that the device will be released anytime soon.
