Apple’s flagship iPhone 15 might become one of the most quickly outdated models in iPhone history. A significant reason for this is that the most exciting new features of iOS 18, particularly those related to Apple Intelligence, will not be available on this model. This leaves iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus users missing out on critical advancements, casting a shadow over the future of these devices.
iPhone 15 Will Miss Out on iOS 18’s Key Innovations
In a rare strategic move, Apple has limited iOS 18’s most exciting AI capabilities to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max models. For iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus users, this creates a substantial disadvantage. With the iPhone 16 and the more affordable iPhone SE 4 models expected to launch soon, these devices are likely to capture all the attention.
iPhone 16 and SE 4 Models Could Outshine the iPhone 15
The upcoming iPhone 16, slated for release in 2024, is expected to fully support iOS 18’s AI-powered Apple Intelligence features. Thanks to the powerful A18 chip, users will be able to utilize all the latest AI capabilities, whether they choose the Pro model or not. Additionally, the 2025 iPhone SE 4 is expected to offer Apple Intelligence at a more affordable price, which could further push the iPhone 15 into the background.
Why Is Apple Intelligence Limited to Pro Models?
According to Apple’s software engineering chief, Craig Federighi, Apple Intelligence requires specific hardware capabilities to function effectively. The iPhone 15 Pro models feature the A17 Pro chip with a 16-core Neural Engine, which is significantly more powerful than the previous A16 chip. Furthermore, Apple requires at least 8GB of RAM in all compatible devices, explaining why these features can’t be extended to older models.
