As part of a major management overhaul, Audi has appointed former Ferrari team principal Mattia Binotto to lead its Formula 1 project.
Binotto’s New Role
In a statement released on Tuesday, Audi announced that Binotto would join the company as chairman and technical chief starting August 1. Binotto will oversee Audi’s Formula 1 operations ahead of their debut race in 2026.
Internal Power Struggles at Audi
This significant change follows the departure of Sauber CEO Andreas Seidl and former board chairman Oliver Hoffmann from the project. These changes come amid rumors of internal power struggles within the company during a period where Sauber has failed to score any points this year. With Binotto reporting directly to the Audi board, the company aims to establish a more robust structure for its Formula 1 venture.
