Renault to produce new electric Twingo with Chinese partner

Renault is seeking a Chinese partner to produce its new electric Twingo. Expected to be priced below 20,000 euros, this new model will also provide Renault with an opportunity to learn manufacturing techniques from Chinese producers.

Partnership and Production Process

Renault spokespersons announced that the development and production of the vehicle will be carried out with a Chinese partner. This collaboration aims to shorten the production time and reduce costs. The design and advanced engineering components of the vehicle will be done in France, and it was officially announced that the production will take place in Europe. This project will be managed by Renault’s new electric vehicle division, Ampere.

Previous Partnership Talks and New Strategies

It is known that the partnership talks between Renault and Volkswagen ended recently. The French automaker emphasizes that the decision to partner with a Chinese company is independent of these discussions. Sources close to the matter stated that this partnership will allow Renault to observe the “production sequences” of Chinese manufacturers, aiming to enhance the efficiency of fast EV production.

Renault’s Future Plans and Production Location

Renault CEO Luca de Meo outlined plans for Twingo at a launch event last year. The French manufacturer plans to produce the vehicle in Europe and may choose Slovenia for this process. Renault continues Twingo production at this facility.

Cheap Electric Vehicle Race in Europe

The “cheap electric vehicle” competition in Europe continues at full speed. With Chinese manufacturers entering the region, other European brands are also trying to lower prices. With the intensification of competition, the European Commission has also become involved in this process.
