New emojis coming to iPhones with iOS 18 revealed

The Unicode Consortium has unveiled the new emojis that will likely be included in iOS 18, expected to release at the end of 2024 or early next year. Seven new emojis will be available for users to use in messaging apps with the new versions of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, macOS, and VisionOS.

New Emojis in iOS 18

One of the standout expressions in the Unicode 16.0 emoji list is the tired face emoji, which will undoubtedly become one of the most used expressions. Other new emojis include a shovel, fingerprint, beetroot, and more. Here are the new emojis that Apple and Google will feature in their new operating systems:

  • Face with under-eye bags
  • Fingerprint
  • Leafless tree
  • Root vegetable
  • Harp
  • Shovel

It can be said that the new emojis (especially the tired face, barren tree, and shovel) are not particularly cheerful. A significant point to note is that the above images are representative, and Apple’s design team will likely make small adjustments to adapt these emojis to iOS 18 and other new operating systems. Additionally, these new emojis are expected to be added not with the initial release of iOS 18, but in its subsequent updates. The latest new emojis came with the iOS 17.4 update.
