Fallout Series episode summaries: Episode 1x04 – The Ghouls

First of all, I want to start with the ghoul serums. I don’t remember such a serum in the games or sources, maybe I missed it. However, I liked that Roger used the term “smooth skin” in the dialogues. In the games, ghouls use this term for humans too. The unnecessary and silly debates about food, like brahmin bacon, didn’t appeal to me. But the dialogues highlighting the difference between what people claim and what actually is seemed like a reference to the Vault system’s tests.

When Norm MacLean was looking at the pixelated image of his father on the Pip-Boy, the top menu tabs looked exactly the same as in the game. Overall, I liked all the Pip-Boy details.

The acting in the scene where Lucy’s finger is cut off seemed bad to me. It was like a child having their nail cut forcefully. I expected more reaction, such as struggling, pulling back, screaming.

Super Duper Mart was a store chain we could explore in Fallout 3, 4, and 76. The atmosphere and characters inside were nice. Lucy escaping from the robot’s saw due to plot armor felt a bit forced. However, it was nice to see her create a weapon using Abraxo Cleaner (Fallout 4) and the robot’s hand afterward. In the game, Abraxo Cleaner, acid, and syringer were also used for ammo. The classic Fallout 10mm pistol design was also well done. As I mentioned at the beginning, I’m new to the serum thing, so I can’t comment much on the ghoul-feral ghoul transformation.

I liked the scenes where Norm and Chet entered and explored Vault 32. It gave the feeling of exploring the ruined or empty Vaults we encounter in the games. The rat documentary playing on the TV and the references to living in the Vault were nice touches. Despite the apocalypse outside, the Vault dwellers live in a utopia, enjoying all amenities, eating and drinking whatever they want, and sleeping in comfortable beds.
