Fallout Series episode summaries: Episode 1×03 – The Head

In the scene where I examined the head, I was impressed with the details of the Pip-Boy. They tried to replicate the stat-status screen from the game exactly. Even the sound made when approaching the irradiated water puddle towards the end of the episode was spot-on.

The Gulper (giant salamander) was well-done. (We saw it in Fallout 4’s Far Harbor and Fallout 76. I only remember its colors being more earthy in the game.) However, in earlier scenes, when the Gulper was eating Lucy’s left shoe, I noticed Maximus examining what looked like the right shoe after the Gulper vomited. This seemed like a small continuity error. Overall, I found the scenes involving the Gulper excessively slimy. This might be related to my expectation for a more serious tone in Fallout.

When they were deciding what to do with the prisoners inside the Vault, the water chip breaking was a nod to the plot of the first game (Fallout 1 – Vault 13). One thing that puzzled me was that in the middle of the first episode, the raiders had taken quite a few Vault residents hostage, even forcing the Overseer to comply with their demands. I couldn’t understand why the raider group left without retrieving their remaining men.

Towards the end, the connection between the Ghoul and Vault Boy might have been pleasing for some, but I couldn’t match the Vault Boy image in my mind with Cooper Howard (the Ghoul). Therefore, the scene didn’t resonate with me. (Regardless, it’s better than the Triss Merigold disaster in The Witcher series.)
