During this week’s I/O 2024 conference, Google unveiled some exciting new features for Android devices. Among the updates coming with Android 15 beta 2, users are in for a pleasant surprise: tests indicate that Google will offer up to a 3-hour increase in battery life.
As we all know, Google made a series of significant announcements at the recent Google I/O 2024 event. One of the highlights was the introduction of Android 15 beta 2, featuring enhancements in efficiency and security. The details of these features have started to emerge in recent hours.
Battery Saving with Doze Mode
In an interview with Android Authority, Vice President of Android Engineering Dave Burke mentioned that devices will receive an upgraded sleep mode. Called “Doze mode,” this feature activates when the screen is off, automatically limiting app activities and system access to prevent battery drain. Essentially, it delays background tasks to save power.
Google states that by accelerating the Doze mode process by 50%, Android 15 devices will see up to a three-hour increase in battery life. Dave Burke explained the development to Android Authority as follows:
“For Android 15, we have accelerated the sleep time by 50%. So, we enter sleep mode 50% faster, resulting in up to three hours of additional standby time on some devices. Moreover, this will be a general improvement applicable to all devices.”
Innovations for Wearable Devices
It’s worth noting that these innovations are not limited to Android devices alone. WearOS, aimed at wearable devices, will also be part of this update. However, the new sleep mode is expected to be available with Android 15-based WearOS 6, so users will need to wait until next year.
New Security Features
Additionally, Google announced several new security features during the I/O 2024 event. These features include Private Space, Theft Detection Lock, Remote Locking Feature, Offline Device Lock, and Biometric Security.
