F1 2026 Belgian Grand Prix: Antonelli Triumphs at Spa Ahead of Leclerc and Verstappen
Andrea Kimi Antonelli claimed a memorable victory at the 2026 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, delivering an outstanding performance at the legendary Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The young Mercedes driver crossed the finish line ahead of Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, while reigning world champion Max Verstappen completed the podium in third place after an action-packed 44-lap race.
An intense battle from the opening lap
Starting from pole position, Antonelli successfully defended his lead into the first corner. However, Max Verstappen briefly moved into first place at Turn 2 before the Mercedes rookie immediately reclaimed the position. Charles Leclerc also took advantage of the early battle, overtaking Verstappen to move into second.

Hamilton, however, received a five-second time penalty for his opening-lap collision with Russell, significantly affecting his chances of fighting for a podium finish despite showing impressive pace throughout the race.
Strategy became the deciding factor
Pit stop strategy played a crucial role during the middle stages of the Grand Prix. Verstappen opted for an early stop, while a pair of Virtual Safety Car periods reshuffled the order.
Antonelli narrowly avoided contact with the pit wall while entering the pits but completed his stop without losing significant time. Ferrari executed an excellent strategy, temporarily putting Leclerc back ahead of the Mercedes driver.
Hamilton also experienced an unusual setback during his pit stop after making slight contact with a mechanic while leaving the pit box, costing valuable seconds and triggering another investigation.
Antonelli retakes the lead
As the race entered its final phase, Leclerc attempted to defend the lead, but Antonelli steadily closed the gap. On lap 34, the Mercedes rookie made a decisive move on the Kemmel Straight to reclaim first place.
Leclerc remained within striking distance for several laps, but gradually lost time through the technical corners. Antonelli managed the race perfectly, extended his advantage, and comfortably took the checkered flag for a brilliant victory.
