Formula 1 Returns to Turkey: A Five-Year Deal for Istanbul Park

Exciting news for motorsport fans—Formula 1 is officially returning to Turkey.

According to the announcement, the Turkish Grand Prix will rejoin the calendar starting in 2027 under a five-year agreement.

A Permanent Spot from 2027 to 2031

Under the agreement between the FIA and Turkey’s Ministry of Youth and Sports, Turkey will host Formula 1 races from 2027 through 2031. The TOSFED will serve as a local operational partner.

This move marks a significant return for Turkey to the global motorsport stage.

Istanbul Park’s Legacy

The races will once again take place at Istanbul Park, a circuit known for its challenging layout. Turkey has hosted nine Formula 1 races so far, with a strong presence between 2005 and 2011 and a brief return during the pandemic years.

In 2020, Lewis Hamilton secured his seventh world title here, matching Michael Schumacher’s record. The 2021 race was won by Valtteri Bottas, while Felipe Massa remains the most successful driver at the track.

Turn 8: More Important Than Ever

The iconic Turn 8 will play an even more crucial role in the new era of Formula 1. With hybrid systems and energy recovery technologies becoming more influential, this section of the track will heavily impact tire wear and race strategy.

A Spectacle in the Streets of Istanbul

As part of the announcement, Yuki Tsunoda performed a demonstration run through Istanbul, from Galataport to Dolmabahçe, bringing the roar of F1 engines into the heart of the city.

Growing Popularity in Turkey

According to the FIA, Turkey is home to over 19 million Formula 1 fans. Social media engagement is also rising rapidly, with millions of followers and strong growth across platforms.

Stefano Domenicali expressed excitement about returning to Istanbul, highlighting its vibrant atmosphere and passionate fan base.
