Could GTA 6 Be Delayed Again? 2027 Rumors Begin to Gain Traction
Anticipation for Grand Theft Auto VI (GTA 6) has reached unprecedented levels, with many expecting it to become the biggest entertainment launch in gaming history. However, recent insider reports suggest that fans may need to brace themselves for yet another delay — possibly pushing the release into 2027.
Speaking on the Button Mash podcast, respected Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier shared new insights into the game’s development at Rockstar Games. According to Schreier, GTA 6 is still not “content complete,” a statement that raises serious questions about the stability of its current release window.
Development Still in Progress
Schreier explained that Rockstar’s development teams are still finalizing missions, polishing story segments, and deciding which features will ultimately make it into the finished game. In modern game development, this stage typically precedes bug fixing and optimization. The fact that GTA 6 has yet to pass this milestone suggests that the project’s timeline remains under significant pressure.
This also reinforces the idea that GTA 6 is still evolving creatively, not just technically — a hallmark of Rockstar’s development philosophy.
A Moving Target for Release Dates
Originally slated for 2025, GTA 6’s launch was later pushed to May 2026, and then to November 2026. While Schreier acknowledges that the November target appears more realistic than previous dates, he emphasizes that no one inside Rockstar is treating it as a guaranteed deadline.
As Schreier succinctly put it:
“Rockstar doesn’t settle for anything less than perfection.”
Rockstar’s History of Delays
A look at Rockstar’s past reinforces this point. Both GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 were delayed multiple times, only to be released as genre-defining masterpieces. The studio has long been known for prioritizing quality over deadlines, even if that means testing players’ patience.
Although Rockstar’s fiscal year ends on March 31, giving the company some scheduling flexibility, it remains unclear whether that buffer will be enough given the current state of development.
Is 2027 Becoming More Likely?
At present, there has been no official announcement confirming another delay. Still, internal uncertainty and reports of unfinished content have been enough to fuel speculation that GTA 6 could slip into 2027. While this possibility is disappointing for eager fans, many agree that a longer wait is preferable to a compromised final product.
In the end, GTA 6’s journey may be longer than expected — but if Rockstar’s track record is any indication, the destination could once again redefine the boundaries of open-world gaming.
