iPhone 17e: Apple’s next affordable upgrade
Following the announcement of the iPhone 16e in early 2025, attention has shifted toward Apple’s next entry-level model: the iPhone 17e. Known for blending modern features with an accessible price tag, the “e” series is expected to continue this strategy while introducing several notable improvements.
Early reports indicate a 6.1-inch OLED display, Dynamic Island design, the A19 chip (with one GPU core disabled), a 48 MP rear camera, and a potential 18 MP upgraded selfie camera. On the connectivity front, Apple may retain the C1 modem, though leaks suggest the possibility of switching to the faster and more energy-efficient C1X modem. Color options are expected to remain limited to black and white.
The iPhone 17e is rumored to be priced around $599, staying well below the standard iPhone 17 model. A release window in the spring of 2026 appears most likely.
Updated Power: The A19 Chip
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman and other reputable sources, the iPhone 17e will share the same A19 processor found in the main lineup, albeit with one GPU core disabled—consistent with previous “e” models.
When it comes to connectivity, Apple may either reuse the C1 modem or opt for the more capable C1X, offering up to 30% better efficiency and improved speeds.
A Shift Toward Dynamic Island
While the 6.1-inch OLED display and 60Hz refresh rate remain unchanged, the major visual upgrade will be the transition from the notch to Dynamic Island, bringing a more modern look to Apple’s budget-friendly category.
Potential Upgrade in Front Camera
The rear camera is expected to stay at 48 MP. The front camera, however, might jump to an 18 MP next-gen sensor—capable of aligning shots properly whether the phone is held vertically or horizontally. Despite these enhancements, premium features like MagSafe and Camera Control will likely remain exclusive to higher-end models.
Design and Release Expectations
The overall design is set to remain familiar, offering only black and white options. Leaks also indicate that test production has already begun, with a full announcement expected in spring 2026.
Affordable but Modern
Combining Dynamic Island, the A19 chip, and an improved selfie camera, the iPhone 17e aims to deliver modern Apple technology at a more attainable price point—positioning it as a strong contender for users seeking an affordable entry into the Apple ecosystem.
