The Star Wars universe is set to return to the big screen, and Disney has just released the first official image from the highly anticipated film, Star Wars: Starfighter. Production began a few weeks ago, and as the shoot enters its third week, fans are finally getting their first glimpse of the project.
The movie stars Ryan Gosling in the lead role. The story takes place a few years after the events of the latest trilogy but remains independent of the main saga. In other words, it’s neither a sequel nor a prequel but rather a standalone adventure. Director Shawn Levy described it simply as “a brand-new adventure.”
Behind the camera is Levy himself, known for Deadpool & Wolverine, Stranger Things, and Free Guy. The script is penned by Jonathan Tropper, best known for Banshee.
The ensemble cast is impressive, with Gosling joined by rising star Flynn Gray (seen in the newly released still), along with Matt Smith, Mia Goth, Amy Adams, Aaron Pierre, Simon Bird, Jamael Westman, and Daniel Ings.
Star Wars: Starfighter is slated for release on May 28, 2027. Before that, however, the long-absent franchise will make its cinematic return with The Mandalorian & Grogu, premiering next summer.
