Apple eyes Perplexity AI acquisition amid AI setbacks

As the artificial intelligence race intensifies globally, Apple finds itself lagging behind, especially in comparison to rivals like Samsung. The company’s virtual assistant Siri has failed to evolve meaningfully, and its latest AI bundle—Apple Intelligence—has not met user or investor expectations. The discontent has even reached the courtroom, as some investors seek answers through legal channels.

In response to mounting pressure, Apple is reportedly exploring external solutions to accelerate its AI development. According to insider sources, the tech giant is considering acquiring Perplexity AI, a rising star in the AI-driven search and knowledge space. With an estimated valuation of $14 billion, this acquisition could become the largest in Apple’s history.

The main motivation behind this potential move lies in strengthening AI-driven services like Siri and integrating advanced AI search capabilities into Safari, positioning Apple as a stronger competitor to Google. However, the acquisition faces hurdles, especially considering that Perplexity AI currently provides services to rivals like Samsung.

As a result, Apple may lean toward forming a strategic partnership rather than a full acquisition. While no formal offer has been made to Perplexity AI yet, the possibility has already stirred considerable interest in the tech community.
