Missing for 17 Years: Cat Named Mozart Finally Reunites With Its Owner

An extraordinary reunion is about to take place in France after a cat that disappeared 17 years ago was identified through its microchip and reunited with its owner.

The remarkable discovery happened in the Gironde region during rescue operations following devastating wildfires. While volunteers were searching the affected areas for injured and stranded animals, they rescued an elderly cat that initially appeared to be just another survivor of the disaster.

However, a routine microchip scan revealed an incredible story. The cat was identified as Mozart, a pet that had been reported missing back in 2009.

Using the information stored in the microchip, rescue teams contacted Mozart's owner, Elisabeth-Sophie Stevens, who now lives near Dijon.

Stevens was stunned by the unexpected phone call. She had adopted Mozart while studying in Bordeaux and had long believed that the beloved pet was gone forever after disappearing nearly two decades ago.

When rescuers sent her a recent photograph, she immediately recognized her longtime companion despite the many years that had passed.

Now 18 years old, Mozart is reported to be in good overall health considering its age. Following final veterinary examinations, the cat is expected to return home to its owner on August 23.
