Apple Doubles MacBook Neo Production as Demand Surges

Apple’s affordable laptop, the MacBook Neo, is proving to be far more popular than expected. During the company’s latest earnings call, CEO Tim Cook admitted that Apple underestimated consumer demand and faced supply constraints as a result.

According to new reports, Apple has now significantly increased production capacity and placed additional A18 Pro chip orders with TSMC.

An Unexpected Hit

Industry analyst Tim Culpan claims Apple has initiated a new production cycle for the A18 Pro processor used in the MacBook Neo. The company is reportedly aiming to dramatically expand manufacturing output, with production targets potentially reaching 10 million units.

The strong demand suggests that MacBook Neo could become one of Apple’s most successful value-oriented devices in recent years.

Cost Optimization Strategy

One reason behind the laptop’s competitive pricing is Apple’s clever use of existing hardware. Reports indicate that the company repurposed A18 Pro chips originally manufactured for the iPhone 16 Pro lineup but carrying minor GPU defects.

This approach helped Apple keep costs low and launch the device at around $599, making it one of the company’s most accessible laptops.

Price Increase Could Happen

However, scaling production may create new challenges. Ongoing global memory supply shortages are reportedly starting to impact Apple as well.

At the same time, fresh A18 Pro production at TSMC could increase manufacturing costs, raising the possibility of future price hikes for the MacBook Neo.

A More Powerful Model in Development?

Rumors also suggest Apple may already be working on a next-generation MacBook Neo featuring an A19 Pro chip and 12 GB of RAM.

For now, though, the company appears focused on meeting overwhelming demand for the current model.
