LG Unveils Its Laundry-Folding Humanoid Robot at CES 2026
At CES 2026, LG offered a compelling glimpse into the future of smart homes by unveiling its humanoid robot, CLOiD. After teasing the concept just a week earlier, the company has now revealed more details about the AI-powered robot, which it claims can handle a wide range of household chores—from folding laundry and unloading dishwashers to serving food and assisting with everyday tasks.
One of CLOiD’s most striking features is its unexpectedly friendly and expressive head unit. Equipped with a display, speakers, cameras, and multiple sensors, this setup allows the robot to communicate with humans through speech and simple “facial expressions.” According to LG, these components also enable CLOiD to learn users’ living environments and lifestyle patterns, using that knowledge to intelligently control connected home appliances.
The robot is fitted with two fully articulated robotic arms, complete with shoulder, elbow, and wrist joints, as well as hands whose fingers can move independently. While LG has not released detailed images of CLOiD’s base, it has confirmed that the robot moves on wheels and relies on technology similar to that used in the company’s robot vacuum cleaners. However, CLOiD does have certain physical limitations: it can pick up objects located at knee height or above, but it is not designed to retrieve items from the floor.
LG plans to demonstrate CLOiD performing common household chores in a variety of scenarios at CES. These include starting laundry cycles, folding freshly washed clothes, removing plates from a dishwasher, taking pastries out of an oven, and serving prepared meals. Another image shows the robot standing next to a woman during a home workout, though it remains unclear how exactly CLOiD contributes in that situation.
A closer look at CLOiD’s real-world capabilities—especially its ability to fold laundry—will be possible once the CES show floor opens. For now, LG appears to be positioning the robot as a concept rather than a commercial product. The company has stated that it will continue developing home robots with practical designs and functions, while also expanding its robotics technology into other household appliances, such as refrigerators with automatically opening doors.
